Price variation of Puppy Health Plans is due to variation in surgical costs depending on breed size at time of spay or neuter. Pricing categories for dog surgeries are less than 10 Kg, 10-20 Kg, 20-40 Kg, and over 40 Kg. We can make accurate estimations for size at surgery (typically 6 months) based on your puppy’s weight and breed at the time you enroll in a Puppy Health Plan. For example, small-breed dogs such as Shih Tzus and Jack Russel Terriers will be under 10 Kg at time of spay or neuter. Most Border Collies will be around 16-18 Kgs, Labradors are typically around 25 Kgs, and only the largest of breeds, such as Great Danes and Rottweilers will be over the 40 Kg mark! If you bring your puppy to be spayed or neutered within the time frame the Veterinarian recommends, there won’t be any extra charges, even if we’ve guessed wrong and your pup is bigger than expected. However, you may incur extra charges for spay or neuter surgeries if you wait far past the recommended spay/neuter time frame (which is just prior to the start of puberty) until your pet is much larger and more mature than recommended, especially if your female puppy or kitten is pregnant at the time of surgery.
